E&L Suppliers was formed in 2019 by Lumbani Mvula after he became aware of the wanton cutting down of trees and uncontrolled bush fires around Zomba Mountain, causing environmental degradation. Further research showed the huge problems of deforestation in Malawi and its impacts, and he determined to play a part in mitigation.
He and his team are passionate about environmental protection, education in respect of the environment, better methods of taking care of natural resources, and working towards reinstatement of deforested areas.
Since the establishment of E&L, the 80% of the surrounding communities whom the company supplies have given great feedback about the benefits of biomass briquettes. It is the intention of the business to expand outwards, to move it forward by the purchase of a machine to increase production, and to plant more trees on fallow ground around Zomba.
Lumbani, the CEO of E&L Enterprise, was born in 1989 in Northern Malawi and now lives in Zomba. In 2015 he attained a Teachers Certificate from Lilongwe Teachers Training College, having studied early childhood development and English literature (British & Commonwealth).
Passionate about helping to improve lives in Malawi, Lumbani is Executive Director of Youth for Change International in the Zomba region, and is focused on the elimination of gender- based violence; water and sanitation; environmental protection; involvement of youth in agriculture; and ensuring that girls can be fairly and properly educated.
Lumbani is a World Literacy Ambassador for Malawi, as part of the World Literacy Programme – promoting literacy for all. He is fervent in his desire that children should be able to reach their full potential through literacy skills.
In his spare time, our CEO is a pastor and a talented musician and singer. He cares for two orphaned boys, whom he is mentoring.
